European Legal Practice LL.M. Eur JOINT Degree at a glance
The Master´s course “European Legal Practice, LL.M. Eur Joint Degree is awarded by the law faculties of the Gottfried Leibniz Universität Hannover, the University of Rouen and the University of Lisbon. It has been financially supported with important scholarships by the EU from 2004-2011. With focus on sharing the degree, the studies are supplemented by one-semester modules at the law faculties in Vilnius, Pune and Brazil. Since the consortium is at the same time part of the European Elpis network of 34 partner universities in whole Europe, whose 27 year experience in international cooperation (Erasmus Socrates and Tempus projects) is carried out in international student exchanges and programs, the LL.M. students benefit from this experienced and tested infrastructure of the Elpis I program.
The consortium aims to complement the skills in the legal system of a graduates´ home country with the acquisition of knowledge for working in various European legal systems and with the particular emphasis on the harmonization and unification of law in Europe. For such purpose the Master Course focuses on its specific mobility and Continental language scheme in French, German and Portuguese language while its other core element is Internationality, represented by full partners from Lithuania, India and Brazil where the lectures are performed in English.
The first two terms of the studies are carried out at one of the consortium´s degree awarding universities (primary university), while the third semester can be spent either by another degree awarding universities or one of the partner universities in Pune, Brasilia and Vilnius. The forth semester concentrates on the completion of the master thesis at the primary DaP or secondary DaP universities attended.
The curriculum of 120 ECTS credits for 2 years is composed of many modules of free choice. Thus over and above the adherence to the prescribed level and proficiency, students are given the opportunity to determine their academic focus by choosing their mobility on specific legal systems and their languages. Some of our partner universities offer, besides summer schools as well paid internships at international law firms during their third semester. After 2011 scholarships will be available in individual cases.
